Breakfasts for Refugee School Children from Myanmar: Our original objective was to fund 2 breakfasts a week (on Mondays and Fridays) for 40 weeks = a school year. It now seems likely that we will be able to fund breakfasts for both the remainder of this academic year and all of next year as food supplies in the refugee camp are still severely limited and likely to remain so.
EMMANUEL SCHOOL
TWOAT Supports the Emmanuel School, which is on the Thai border with Myanmar (formerly Burma).
Emmanuel School is a small Anglican primary school in Mae La refugee camp. The camp, which has a population of over 34,000 people, is the largest of nine camps strung along the Thai-Burma border. Mae La camp is 40 km from the town of Mae Sot, a small Thai town with an airport. The school is open to children of all religions and includes Christians, Buddhists, Muslims and Animists. There are currently 224 students;
Mae Sot is a border town in North West Thailand that sits on the east side of the Moei River which separates Thailand from Myanmar and the township of Myawaddy. This is an area facing great issues with Burmese migrants escaping or being trafficked across the border into Thailand, often coming from extremely difficult and life threatening situations.

Unfortunately the decision of the US Government to withdraw aid has cut the money available to feed the refugees in half. The lunches we fund for the children are now more important than ever.
We are in discussion with the school as to whether it would be possible to fund extra food on Mondays and Fridays as the children may not get any food at the weekend.
We sent our £6000 contribution to lunch costs in September plus an extra £1,000 to fund what additional food that the school may be able to provide.
TWOAT Lunch at Emmanuel School
The following are extracts from the 2025 Emmanuel School Report.
Students really thank TWOAT from the bottom of their hearts for their daily food is fully of nutrition. They pray for TWOAT members and everyone who participate for giving their food. Some student houses are very far from school to go home for lunch. Some students said that they also missed their breakfast from house because of their family situations. They also said TWOAT lunch is more tasty than food in their houses.
Students praise God and pray for their kindness donors before they have the delicious food for lunch in every day. The students can have lunch at school so they can concentrate more on their study and can also focus on their lessons. It also takes less time for going home for lunch and come back to school. They have special lunch with sweet smile and happiness in their class rooms. We really thank to TWOAT lunch for having delicious and nutritious foods for our children.
The foods for lunch are rice porridge, Karen rice noodles, rice and curry (chicken, eggs and pork…), noodle soup.

2024
The recurring payment appeal has enabled us to increase our regular support for feeding the children to £6k per year. The school has had problems with the latest flow of refugees from Myanmar government bombing as older children have received little or no schooling. These children have to start in lower age group classes which has cost extra money in books and equipment – we sent £1k to help with these costs.

2023
The latest report from this project told us that as a result of increased repression by Government forces in Myanmar yet another wave of Christian refugees has joined the camp which is just over the border in Thailand increasing the number attending the school to 236 children.
2022
The latest report from this project told us that as a result of increased repression by Government forces in Myanmar another wave of Christian refugees has joined the camp which is just over the border in Thailand. Altogether 37 additional children have joined Emmanuel School. We agreed with Revd. Tim Astin of the Good Shepherd that we can divert some funds that we jointly raised with them for another project to Emmanuel School. We can now send enough extra money this autumn so that the new children can also enjoy the lunches that we have been funding for the existing pupils over the last several years.
