Sponsored Walk

Tadworth & Walton Overseas Aid Trust is organising the same Ten Mile Sponsored Walk on two occasions in May on Friday 19 and Saturday 27.  The start will be at 9.15 from the “Lunch Box” kiosk near the “Beefeater” pub overlooking Tattenham Corner on the Derby racecourse (post code KT18 5PP).   The walk will go across the racecourse, past Langley Vale and continue to Headley passing the new plantation of trees which will become a memorial to those who lost their lives in the 1914-18 war.  At Headley there will be a stop for refreshments at the “Village Stores and Tea Room”.  Then the route will go past Headley Heath, and across the Walton Heath Golf Club course, to the “Sportsman” pub on the outskirts of Lower Kingswood with a stop for lunch.    After lunch the route will follow the line of the “Coal Tax” posts back to Walton with a stop for refreshments at the Grey Dove” then across the Downs back to the racecourse and the “Lunch Box” kiosk.    Along the walk a local historian will give the history of the area. Lifts back to the start will be available from each of the three stopping point.   If you are interested in participating or sponsoring please contact John Allinson on 01737 213347

2015 Walk Report

Our 2015 Sponsored Walks attracted a record 43 participants.  Many thanks go to the organiser John Allinson; his two walking helpers Bob Gunn and Dick Shelley; historian Jean Clew; lift provider Mary Heath and John’s wife Deb who greeted the walkers at the 3/4 way point on Farthing Down with a selection of drinks and biscuits.

The Walk proved most interesting starting in Chipstead and including visits to the ancient Saxon Church at Chaldon and Kenley Aerodrome where John identified significant sites and  gave details of its role in the Battle of Britain.

It is not too late to retrospectively sponsor walkers who participated in the rather hilly 9.5 mile challenge which traversed Happy Valley twice .
